CAXAP/Zucker - Zwölf Tage
in Odessa
(Exhibition and catalogue)
In September 2003, the Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov traveled with
Helfried Strauß (Professor at the AVA) and 15 selected students of the
Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig to Odessa for twelve days. The resultant work
is complex and multi-layered. The pictures were made in spontaneous encounters
between pedestrians and the photographers. The mutual interest of both sides
lead to intense moments, captured in the medium of photography. In topographic
tableaus, living picture essays, moving portrait series, the young photographers
present their view of the city, its people and their everyday environment. The
selected works have been published in a catalogue and exhibited i.e in the Kunsthalle
Villa Kobe in Halle, in the Gallery Aspekte in Munich, as well as at the International
Photography Festival in Leipzig.
