The b/w film “Silent Blue” shows close-ups of a jazz pianist improvising
on the piano and completely immersing himself in his music. We see sections
of the spine, the neck, the face, the foot moving back and forth rhythmically,
almost ecstatically in front of the camera on a tripod. The piano itself isn’t
shown and the film is without sound. For the viewer, the source of the body
movements is not directly identifiable, and yet can still be assumed. ...
